Impact of cytomegalovirus in myocarditis in correlation with interferon γ

Author(s): Wisal S Abd

Abstract: A little epidemiologic data linking Cytomegalovirus (CMV), especially Cardiac diseases seems plausible and requires further?study. An inflammatory process,?cardiovascular disease therefore is associated with a detectable increase in markers of inflammation such as Interferon-?. Objective of this work was to assess the putative?role of this virus and dynamic post-translational modifications, 100 myocarditis?disease female patients and 100 healthy controls were randomly selected as study subjects' ages range 38-69 and 35-64 respectively. Enzyme linked immunozorbant assay (ELISA) for detection of IgG. ELISA for the identification of CMV-specific immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies was found. ELISA was used to estimate the levels of interferon-?. Peak age incidence was 45-49. Of the 100 cases, 60 (60%) had IgG antibodies against CMV, while 15 (15%) of the 100 controls had IgG antibodies (p<0.001). The highest number of patients with +VE IgG was in age group (55-59) percentage was 71.42%. Concentration of interferon gamma (IFN- ?) around from 13.56-650.17 and 7.75-96.57 pg/ml in patients and control respectively (p<0.001), in persons previously infected with CMV median level of IFN-? was 323.43 picogram per milliliter (pg/ml) for the patients and 44.64 pg/ml for the controls (p<0.001). We found a substantial correlation between CMV seropositivity and myocarditis patients. The inflammatory etiology of myocarditis was reflected in the increased mean level of gamma interferon across the cases. Inflammatory indicators and CMV have a part in cardiovascular disease, as evidenced by the fact that the severity of the infection raises the mean value of INF-?.
